Spiders
Spiders and Their Webs Causing a Problem? For some, spiders around the house and yard can be a bit scary. But everyone should be cautious about certain spiders as their bites can cause problems. And of course, spider webs on the outside of the home can look very untidy! Our Professional Spider Control Treatments The type of spider treatment we carry out will depend on the species of spider we find, as they all like different hiding spots and have different web building habits. However, our treatments are designed to kill any spiders present and providing lasting protection – making sure your home is spider free for many months. Target spiders: Redbacks, White-Tails, Black House, Huntsman, Wolf, Daddy Long Legs etc. Areas treated: Indoor and outdoor surfaces including walls, skirtings, ceilings, entry points, window/ door frames, outdoor items, gardens for some examples. Gutters, eaves, pergolas, outdoor furniture, fences, clotheslines and sheds Sub-floors and Roof voids if present and appropriate access is present. How Our Spider Treatments Work The sprays, dusts & chemicals we use will kill any spider they contact. They also leave an invisible residual layer on treated surfaces, which will kill any spiders that come along later and stop them building their webs. These Sprays, Dusts & Chemicals work on the Spiders nervous system to effectively treat the spider problem. We only use products with a high UV rating as to give you the best outcome and longevity when it comes to a treatment. All products used are water soluble, and therefore very safe yet affective. We only ever use EPA/ AVMPA Registered and Approved products, and we are always Accredited with these. It is incredibly important to not remove any residue! IMPORTANT: Leave any webs in place for a week or two after spraying. This gives any spiders in hiding the chance to pick up insecticide from the web. After a couple of days, the webs can be removed by brushing (don’t spray with the hose as the water will dilute the insecticide or wash the insecticide away). How to Help Prevent a Spider Problem Spiders are always present outdoors. However, there are several things you can do to prevent spiders from moving into your home. Keep all interior and exterior areas clean, clutter free, trim any and all trees and bushes. Spiders eat insects, so a general pest treatment will remove potential food sources, immediately making your home less attractive to spiders.
Subterranean Termites
Subterranean termites are social insects which live in large underground colonies and follow a caste system. They are typically a creamy brown colour and play an important role in nature, converting wood and other plant materials into nutrient-rich organic matter. A colony consists of workers, soldiers, reproductives, a termite queen and a termite king. All contribute a specific function in maintaining the health of the colony. A fun fact is that termite soldiers are known to bite humans if their colony is disturbed. Subterranean termites are found throughout the whole of Australia but are most active above the Tropic of Capricorn. Due to their sensitivity to light and moisture, they live their entire lives underground. Termite colonies can conceal their nests in wood stumps, under the ground or within a structure. Subterranean termites will venture up to 500 meters away from their nest to find their primary food source, cellulose, which is found in living and dead wood. During their search for food, they can damage non digestible materials such as plastic and mortar. Biology Subterranean termites are usually 0.7mm to 1cm in length with a structure made up of a head, thorax and abdomen. Often mistakenly referred to as “white ants,". Please! They are not White Ants! Fun fact; Cockroaches evolved from Termites about 320 million years ago during the Carboniferous period, long before dinosaurs. Subterranean termite colonies follow a caste system that allows them to divide up labour. Termite workers are responsible for foraging and building tunnels. Soldiers are responsible for defending the colony and reproductives are responsible for establishing new colonies, mating and laying eggs. What you can do to limit termite infestation? Schedule regular termite inspections with a licensed pest control company. We recommend having an inspection at twice once a year. Have a termite monitoring/baiting system installed on your property that is regularly monitored for activity. Clear any obstacles or debris from the building perimeter to enable ongoing visual inspection of the “visual inspection zone”, which is a gap between the termite barrier and any substrate. Remove garden mulch from the building perimeter and relocate flower and garden beds away from house walls. Where possible, remove any potential termite food sources from your property, such as scrap timber, timber sleepers, wooden garden stakes, etc. Reduce access to easy water sources by fixing leaking tapes, excess condensation from air conditioners, hot water system overflow discharge, etc. - Ensure water from your reticulation system is directed away from your home. - Remove all wood, tiles, bricks, etc. stacked against external walls to help prevent concealed termite entry. Think your property has termites? Schedule a termite inspection today.
Termite Inspections
Did you know that Termites cause more damage than fire, flood and natural disaster combined, yet termite damage is not covered by your home insurance. All our termite and timber pest inspections are carried out according to Australian standards and AEPMA Code of Practice for Termite Management and will determine: - The level of termite activity. - Whether there is any termite damage. - If there are any conditions conducive to termite attack. - Inspect all buildings, structures and attachments within the property boundaries. - This includes full inspection of every room in turn, and of the roof void and subfloor areas (if present and access is reasonable). - Inspect timber fences, decks, pergolas, outbuildings, trees and landscape timbers in a 30m radius of the main building (within the property boundaries). - Usage of all up to date and recognized inspection methods and devices. - Moisture Meters, Thermal Cameras, Tappers, Movement Isolators, Tappers, Scope Cameras.
